What Are The Criteria For Listing?
  1.  An item that is desirable or interesting to the market.
  2.  Great pictures that show the good, the bad, and the ugly.
  3.  A vehicle that has no issues being dropped in the buyer’s lap.
  4.  Lots of information and documentation.
  5.  Basically, a buyer with a desire to sell.
Why Is Iron Age Better Than A Live Auction?

Great question with lots of great answer:

  1. Costs – Live auctions cost the seller from 20% to over 40% of the gavel price. Yes the buyer does pay the buyer’s premium, but they simply discount it from their bid.
  2. Fees – Live auctions charge for everything.  Event admission, listing submission, 5-15% seller’s premium, unloading, storage, damage waiver insurance, demerge.
  3. Shipping – A virtual auction does not require the item to be shipped to the auction house.
  4. Timing – A virtual auction lasts for 7- 14 days giving more people more time to engage in the process.
  5. Buyer Pool – In addition to being open significantly longer than a live auction, a virtual auction is open to millions of potential buyers.  Not just those available for the 1-5 minutes your item is on the block.
  6. Exposure – We are able to spread the word about your item. Our Media Blitz and King Ranch packages both advertise your auction to appropriate online outlets.
How Does The Process Work?

From the time of your initial submission, the listing process normally takes about two weeks.

  1. To speed the process, please have all of your documents and pictures ready to submit and please please please, be as responsive as possible with your agent.
  2. After you submit your item for listing, one of our seller’s agents will review your submission.
  3.  When we decide to list you item, your agent will collaborate with you to write a thorough and objective listing.
  4.  Once the listing is approved, it will be scheduled to go live.
What Can I Do To Get The Most Out Of My Listing?

We have found that sellers that do the following have the best outcome.

  • Take Great Pictures – More than any other single factor – GREAT pictures sell! And we actually decline wonderful vehicles due to poor pictures. Learn More Here
  • Be forthright – The market is more educated and savvy than most sellers anticipate. Trying to conceal issues will either adversely affect your sale price or end in an aborted sale.
  • Be Responsive – When buyers ask questions, they are interested. Always strike while the iron is hot and respond as quickly as possible.
What Is Needed To Submit My Vehicle?

Submitting your vehicle for consideration is very simple.   Submit Your Listing HereJust fill the form.Write description of the vehicle for the team to review. (Bullet points work well).Attach the following pictures to your submission:

  1.  2 or 3 glamour shots of your item.
  2.  A picture of the VIN number.
  3.  A picture of the odometer.
  4.  A picture of the title.
  5.  A picture of the registrant’s ID.
Why Do You Charge For A Seller Reserve?

We charge a Seller’s Reserve of 1% of the initial reserve price. These are our thoughts about reserves:

  1.  A reasonable reserve can be important for sellers worried about protecting their investment on a limited market item.
  2.  We feel it is important to charge for a reserves to allow the seller to demonstrate a willingness to sell and not just “find the market” for their item.
  3.  We work with sellers to set realistic reserves. Since we began as a data company, we have information on tens of thousands of auctions and sales of rare, antique, and collectible vehicles to assist you in doing so.
Can I Lower Or Lift My Reserve?

As many seller’s watch their auction progress and find that their expectations may not in aligned with the reality of the market, many seller’s ask if the reserve price can be lowered or dropped. The simple answer is: Yes you can!The not as simple answer is:

  1.  Given the dynamics of the internet and working in a virtual environment, changes to reserve prices are not guaranteed in the final minutes of an auction, so be sure to your decision as early as possible.
  2.  Reserve prices are based on the initial reserve price.  Lowering the reserve will not result in the refund of the difference due to the resources we must dedicate to doing so.
Can I Edit Or End My Auction?
Editing your auction is possible by contacting your listing agent. Changes are added as an addendum to the beginning of the text to ensure that followers are aware of any changes.
What Happens After My Auction?

Once your auction has ended, Iron Age Auction’s role in the transaction ends. We will forward the seller’s and buyer’s contact information to both parties.
This is what should happen next:

  • The Seller should forward to the buyer a copy of the vehicle’s title, a signed bill of sale, and a picture of your ID.
  • The Buyer is then responsible for the collection and shipping of the vehicle in accordance with any stipulations laid out in the auction.
  • Upon collection of the vehicle, the seller should endorsed the title to transfer ownership.
  • The seller’s ID should be checked against the Title.
  • The buyer should provide the seller with an insurance endorsement for the vehicle.
What If There Is A Problem After The Sale?

It is tough to admit, but not all transactions go smoothly.  In the event that there is an issue, we will do everything possible to bring the transaction to a fair conclusion.  We can help to negotiate issues such as:

  • Compensation for new or unlisted damage.
  • Mechanical issues.
  • Material errors regarding numbers or build codes.
  • Vehicle not being collected in accordance with the auction terms.
Can I Relist My Item?
In order to keep our auctions fresh, we discourage relisting items for 90 days from the close of your auction.  In the event that your transaction is not completed, we will work with the seller to offer the item to the next bidder or relist the item for you.
How Do I Register?
  1. Please complete the form found on the Registration Page.
  2. Verify your email address in the email we send you.
  3. If you do not receive an email from us after registering, please check you spam and junk folders.
  4. Once you have completed this process, you are ready to follow auctions, ask sellers questions, and bid.
How Much Does It Cost To Bid?

Bidding is absolutely free!

If you win the auction, there is a 5% buyers premium on the final sale price as discussed in “How Does Bidding Work?”

How does Bidding Work?

Our platform uses a max bid system.  When you enter the maximum amount you are willing to bid, the system will advance your bid to the $50 over the previous high bid.

As other buyers outbid you, it will advance to $1 over their bid.

When you set your maximum, and the high bid displayed is $1 higher than yours, it means that someone else has a maximum bid set higher than yours.

The system will indicate on the listing page “You are the high bidder.”

If you are outbid at anytime during the auction, the system will send you an email to let you know.

Can I bid from Overseas?

Please do! We encourage buyers from all corners of the globe to join our community.

That said, please be aware that if you are in Bangalore, India and want to buy a car from Bangor, Maine USA, you are solely responsible for arranging pick up, land freight, sea freight, port fees, customs charges, duties, etc.  So, do your homework!

Can I Inspect The Vehicle?

In the event you would like to inspect a vehicle before bidding, just complete the ask a question section and we will help you make the connection you need.

Why Does The Auction Timer Keep Adding More Time?

Our platform uses what is called “anti-sniping” technology to discourage people from trying to steal (or snipe) the winning bid in the final seconds of the auction.

When a bid is placed in the final 5 minutes of auction, the clock resets to 15 minutes.

What Is The Reserve Price For A Particular Auction?

We do not indicate the reserve price of our auctions because it can lead to price manipulation.
The auction page will indicate under the bidding field that the item has a reserve.

Can I Cancel My Bid?

Cancelling a bid is not possible under most circumstances.  So be sure to do your homework about the vehicle and read the listing thoroughly.

The only instance where we may allow a bid to be cancelled is a material change to the auction AFTER your bid was placed.  Material changes are added to the opening section of the auction as an Addendum. We will notify you if this happens and you must cancel the bid before the auction has ended.

What Happens After The Auction?

How Do I Ship My New Vehicle?

Short Answer: Any way you want.

Not so short answer:  We have resources available here to assist is transporting vehicles.

What If There Is A Problem With The Sale?

It is tough to admit, but not all transactions go smoothly.  In the event that there is an issue, we will do everything possible to bring the transaction to a fair conclusion.  We can help to negotiate issues such as:

  • Compensation for new or unlisted damage.

Can I Buy A Car That Did Not Meet Reserve?

It does occur from time to time that after an auction has ended the seller decides to lift the reserve and sell the vehicle. When this occurs, IAA will contact the highest bidder and extend the offer to them.

When Will The Auctions Go Live?

We are currently gathering consignments and making the final preparations to go Live.

We anticipate that the first Auction will start early in February.

Please check back because there will countdown timer once we have a date set to kick off the #1 transportation site on the web!

Why Is There No Open Forum For Each Listing?

Forums are a great place for people to gather and discuss common interests.  They are also wonderful resources to conduct research.  That said, this platform is designed to bring buyers and sellers together to conduct commerce, not to hang out. One competing platform has over 45% of its traffic and comments from less than 2% of the visitors.

The way we look at it is this: when you go to a live auction, 200 people could have lined up to thoroughly inspect a car. Would you as a buyer or seller want to have to go through a line of all 200 telling you everything they feel is right or wrong with the vehicle?  Or more bluntly, we consider it the same as turning around and asking the next 10 people behind you in line at Costco what they think your rash is.

What Do You Do With My Credit Card Information?
  • All registered Buyers and Sellers are required to keep a credit card on file with IAA.
  • Once a seller submits all required information to create their listing, the Listing Package Cost and any Seller Reserve are charged to the card.
  • Once you place a bid, a hold is placed on your card for the 5% buyers  premium.
  • The hold remains in place until the auction has ended so that your credit card company does not send a fraud alert for IAA placing and removing holds repeatedly if you raise your bid over time.
  • If you are the winning bidder, IAA will send you a bill which you can pay via other means or with the card on file.
  • If you are NOT the winning bidder, the hold is released by IAA.
