1963 Chevrolet Corvette Fuelie
From a private collection is this numbers matching, beautifully Refreshed Original 327/360 Fuelie. This example has been refreshed to the highest possible level of originality with many mechanical components painstakingly refurbished to retain authenticity.
As they say, a car is only original once. In this case, the owner and consulting restorer, NCRS judge Goodwin Hannaford of Hollis, Maine, worked diligently for several years to procure only the most complete original examples of mid-year Corvettes available and this Fuelie is a true testament to their goal.
The car is finished in correct (and preferred) Silver Blue over original Dark Blue Vinyl. Exterior paint was redone in the early ‘90s and upon purchase by the present owner, the hood was reshot. The exterior of the vehicle is exceptional condition with no dents, scuffs or scratches showing.
Purchased as an investment, the engine and drivetrain were thoroughly scoped, inspected, and fluids analyzed prior to purchase. The original 327/360 FI engine feeds power through its numbers matching 4 speed to the rear differential and on to the original and cosmetically perfect aluminum knock offs.
The car’s restoration included a thorough disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly. In addition to renewing the seals and gaskets of the drivetrain, all major components were serviced using only NOS and OEM components were used to return them to original condition. As a testament to vehicle’s originality, the undercarriage, engine, exhaust, and interior components have been cleaned and detailed, but all retain their originality by not being replated or painted. The car has resided with the rest of the collection in a climate-controlled facility since purchase and has been periodically serviced and exercised to its present 49,800 miles to maintain proper running condition.
The interior is 100% original to the car and is in excellent condition with only minimal wear that would be expected from a car of its age. Rugs, door panels and seating surfaces have no tears or repairs. The gauges all function properly and do show slight hazing as would be expected of originals.
With the care and attention put into the original work by Mr. Hannaford it goes without saying that mechanically the vehicle functions flawlessly. There are no reported leaks or issues with dials, switches or controls. The owner did indicate that there is one small paint bubble on the rear deck and localized chrome peeling as is common on the underside of the rear left bumper (pictured).
7/7 – Daly – 1963 Corvettes were not delivered with knock off wheels
That is correct that none were delivered with KOs although they could be ordered. There is considerable debate as to there actual manufacture in ’63. This car was located, authenticated and restored by noted NCRS judge Goodwin Hannaford for the owner. He indicated them in his initial inspection as a set of original KOs. Whether that means they are ’63 or early C2 is not noted.
